For HENZEL STUDIO, Jack Pierson has created three different carpets. The first was released in 2013, and is adapted from one of his automatic drawings, where the drawing strokes have been accentuated though lower pile heights. To expand the ongoing collaboration with Pierson, two additional designs launched in 2018. Here, Pierson re-appropriated pieces from his abstract sculpture series. The first one, based on ABSTRACT #12 (2008) is a freeform design with a surface treatment that replicates a worn vintage feel though variable material compositions of wool and silk. For the second design (featured piece), Pierson re-appropriated a component of his sculpture GOIN HOME (2011). The connected shapes creates free-form carpet with variable pile heights for dimension and enhanced use of silk to increase contrast. Jack Pierson has had solo and group shows at major institutions such as Aspen Art Museum, MCA Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), MoMA PS1, New Museum New York, ICA London, Hammer Museum Los Angeles, The Bass Museum of Art in Miami and collected by major institutions such as MCA Chicago and Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) New York.
