Henzel Studio

Henzel Studio

Henzel Studio is a Swedish luxury rug manufacturer established in 1999. The Studio's ethos is based on the artistic practice of Calle Henzel, its founder and creative director.

As a multimedia artist, Calle's paintings, collages and photomontages have, as a result of early textile experimentation, been translated into a vast series of rug designs. Over the years he has cultivated an independent standing and business model that has allowed him uncompromised artistic freedom. His practice is a continuous reflection of what is experienced and perceived through subjective cultural impulses.

To expand on this practice, HENZEL STUDIO: COLLABORATIONS / HERITAGE was conceived as a continuous initiative curated by Joakim Andreasson, inviting some of the most prominent contemporary artists of our time to freely and seamlessly translate their work through an alternate media and the extraordinary practices that are involved in the making of Henzel Studio's carpets.

The unique characteristics of Henzel's pieces lend a contemporary and enduring quality to his work, blending the abstract and figurative, often searching for a constant interplay between the sublime and the intense. His organic and experimental process, which involves elements of intuition, chance and accident, is something that continues to breathe into the making of his art. Calle Henzel's work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions, group exhibitions and public installations worldwide.

Calle Henzel has collaborated with some of the most prominent names in contemporary art, including; Nan Goldin, Richard Prince, Juergen Teller, Marilyn Minter, Jack Pierson, Helmut Lang, Anselm Reyle, Douglas Gordon, Richard Phillips as well as the estates of Andy Warhol and Tom of Finland.
